Step-by-Step Instructions for Flower Sugar Cookies
  1. Cream together ½ cup unsalted butter and ½ cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Mix in 1 egg and 1 tsp vanilla extract until just combined.
  3. Whisk together 2 cups flour, 2 ½ tbsp cornstarch, and ¼ tsp salt in a separate bowl.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients until a non-sticky dough forms.
  5. Divide dough in half; color one half with red food coloring and reserve uncolored dough for cookie centers.
  6. Roll balls of colored dough for petals and uncolored dough for the centers on a baking sheet.
  7. Flatten each flower shape and create petal lines with a toothpick; place centers in the middle.
  8. Chill decorated cookies for at least 1 hour.
