  • 1 teaspoon Salt Improves flavor and helps with peeling.
  • 1 tablespoon Vinegar Any type aids in easy peeling by breaking down the shells.
For the Marinade
  • 3 cloves Garlic Provides depth; feel free to adjust the amount to your taste.
  • 2 pieces Korean Green Pepper Adds a mild kick; swap for jalapeño if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili Optional for extra heat; leave out for a milder dish.
  • 2 stalks Green Onion Adds freshness and crunch; chives can be a good substitute.
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce Acts as the umami base of the marinade; consider low-sodium options.
  • 1 tablespoon Honey Balances the savory notes with sweetness; sugar works as a substitute.
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil Adds richness; can be omitted for a lighter rendition.
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds Sprinkle on top for enhanced flavor and texture; toasted is best!

Equipment

  • medium-sized pot
  • slotted spoon
  • container with lid
  • bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Fill a medium-sized pot with water, add a pinch of salt and vinegar. Bring to a gentle simmer. Carefully lower in fresh eggs, allowing them to cook for precisely 6 minutes for a perfect soft-boiled consistency.
  2. Transfer the boiled eggs into a large bowl filled with ice water for at least 10 minutes to halt cooking and make peeling easier.
  3. Combine minced garlic, diced Korean green pepper, red chili (if using), chopped green onion, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, and a splash of water in a container. Stir until well mixed.
  4. Gently peel the cooled eggs and place into the prepared marinade, ensuring they are completely submerged. Seal and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or ideally overnight.
  5. When ready to enjoy, remove eggs from marinade. Serve over rice or noodles or enjoy as a snack. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds before serving.
